John McWhorter’s Woke Racism: How a New Religion Has Betrayed Black America (2021, 224 pages) is written by an African-American academic who, while not a believer himself, makes the case that the new anti-racism (based in Critical Race Theory) is a religious system, and its supporters (“the Elect”) are religious adherents. McWhorter has an incisive and powerful writing style, pulls no punches in his argumentation, and boldly casts himself outside of the “woke” camp to fight against the Anti-Racist Creed which is attempting to make itself the new State religion. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn more about the worldviews that form the foundation of Critical Race Theory, with the caveat that the book is not written from a Christian perspective, and does contain a bit of rough language.
